Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving as a U.S. Congress representative for California's 17th District, recently shared a series of posts on social media highlighting ongoing economic challenges, focusing predominantly on recent layoffs affecting American workers. Born in Philadelphia and residing in Fremont, Khanna replaced previous representative Mike Honda in 2017. A graduate of the University of Chicago and Yale University, he remains a vocal advocate for industrial and economic reform.

On April 18, 2025, Khanna tweeted about layoffs in Benson, Minnesota, where 175 workers at tractor manufacturer CNH lost their jobs. According to Khanna, this development is attributed to “current and anticipated market conditions,” a situation exacerbated by the Trump administration's "indecisive trade policies" that have heightened cost concerns for farmers. "In Benson, Minnesota, 175 workers were laid off from tractor manufacturer CNH due to 'current and anticipated market conditions,' as the Trump administration’s indecisive trade policies raise cost concerns for farmers."

In another tweet on the same date, Khanna addressed the broader impact of deindustrialization policies on American communities that have long depended on factory jobs. He noted that within the week, 1,786 workers became unemployed as six companies initiated mass layoffs and another six shut down operations. "Decades of deindustrialization policy have devastated American communities that relied on factory jobs. This week, 1786 workers lost their jobs as six companies conducted mass layoffs and six closed."

Khanna also focused on layoffs in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where aerospace manufacturer Collins Aerospace has dismissed 160 employees in an effort to cut costs. "In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, aerospace manufacturer Collins Aerospace laid off 160 employees to reduce costs."

Ro Khanna has served in the U.S. Congress since 2017 and is committed to addressing the effects of deindustrialization and the economic instability affecting various American cities.
