Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has recently shared several tweets highlighting layoffs across different industries in the United States. These posts provide insight into ongoing shifts within the manufacturing sector and legislative efforts aimed at revitalizing it.
On March 22, 2025, Khanna reported that "86 people were permanently laid off from Japanese automotive and aerospace manufacturer, Nitto Inc., in Chesapeake, Virginia after announcing a new multimillion-dollar facility in Frankfort, Kentucky." He pointed to this as an example of how congressional actions can aid in attracting and rebuilding manufacturing sectors.
In another tweet on the same day, he noted that "146 workers were laid off in Bayonne, New Jersey, when gun manufacturer Henry Bayonne LLC relocated to Wisconsin."
Additionally, Khanna highlighted layoffs in the semiconductor industry by stating that "In San Jose, Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Renesas Electronics Corporation laid off 3 more workers after cutting 63 from other facilities." He emphasized that investments like the CHIPS Act and penalties for offshoring could help maintain jobs within this critical sector.
