Ro Khanna, a U.S. Congressman representing California's 17th district since 2017, recently shared his concerns about job losses in American manufacturing through a series of tweets. Born in Philadelphia and educated at the University of Chicago and Yale University, Khanna has been vocal about supporting rural communities affected by deindustrialization.

On March 14, 2025, Khanna tweeted about significant job losses due to factory closures. He highlighted that "The largest closure was in Thornton, Colorado, where 150 lost their jobs when meat producer Meati Foods closed due to a lack of funding." He emphasized the importance of direct federal investments to sustain American-based manufacturing plants and maintain employment opportunities in rural areas.

In another tweet on the same day, he reported that "This week, 505 workers lost their jobs as two factories closed and three conducted mass layoffs." This statement underscores the ongoing challenges faced by workers in the manufacturing sector.

Khanna further elaborated on the broader issue of deindustrialization with a call for legislative action: "As deindustrialization took hold in the U.S., rural communities who relied on good-paying factory jobs were left behind. It’s time for Congress to help restore industry to these towns." He expressed his commitment to tracking factory closures weekly to raise awareness and push for solutions.
