Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing California's 17th district, has voiced concerns about the economic impact of factory closures and mass layoffs across America. Through a series of tweets on February 7, 2025, he highlighted specific instances affecting his home district and other regions.

On February 7, 2025, Rep. Khanna tweeted about the widespread issue of factory closures and mass layoffs occurring across America. He emphasized that manufacturers are opting to offshore and consolidate for cost savings, leaving communities devoid of opportunities. He stated: "Factory closures and mass layoffs are happening across America. Manufacturers are choosing to offshore and consolidate for costs, leaving communities without opportunity." Khanna called for Congressional awareness regarding these developments.

In another tweet posted on the same day, Khanna addressed a situation in his home district where semiconductor manufacturer Harbor Electronics laid off 92 workers following an acquisition by Italian company Technoprobe. He noted: "In my home district, semiconductor manufacturer Harbor Electronics laid off 92 workers after an acquisition by Italian company Technoprobe." The congressman argued for implementing an offshoring penalty and higher corporate taxes to mitigate such impacts.

Further elaborating on the issue of job losses due to business operations changes, Rep. Khanna shared another instance from Fredonia, Wisconsin. On February 7, 2025, he tweeted: "196 workers are now without jobs after Guy & O’Neill Inc., a sanitary product manufacturer in Fredonia, Wisconsin, closed." He suggested that collaboration between Congress and the private sector could lead to investments in modern factories to create new job opportunities.
