WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16), Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, issued the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first birth control pill available without a prescription in the U.S.

“The FDA’s approval of Opill, the first over-the-counter birth control pill available for use in the U.S, is a major win for women’s health care, allowing women to purchase birth control pills at grocery stores and pharmacies without having to visit a doctor to obtain a prescription. As Republicans continue their attacks on women’s reproductive rights across the country, this is a great achievement to reduce barriers for women and their health.”
