PALO ALTO, C.A. - Representative Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16) issued the following statement after today’s announcement that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is awarding over $1,800,000,000 to California from the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program to connect every American with affordable, high-speed internet.

“Today, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that California will receive over $1.8 billion to build out access to the internet to every community. High-speed internet is essential to learn, work, connect with loved ones, and access crucial services, yet many communities lack basic access to high-quality broadband internet service. This funding will ensure families across my Congressional District can access high-speed, reliable, and affordable internet service that is essential to their day-to-day life. I’m proud to have voted for and written sections of the legislation that funds this extraordinary program to bridge the digital divide and better connect our nation.”

Today’s announcement is part of the Biden Administration’s Internet for All initiative, which is funded with $65 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and $25 billion from the American Rescue Plan.
