Washington, D.C. -- Last week, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), along with more than 20 lawmakers, joined together with several Holocaust survivors for an event on Capitol Hill in honor of Yom HaShoah, Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Reps. David Kustoff (TN) and Brad Schneider (IL) hosted their colleagues for an emotional event that included remarks from Holocaust survivor Rachel Mutterperl Goldfarb, a candlelighting, a recitation of names of Jews who died in the Holocaust and remarks by Stuart Eizenstat, chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
Congressman Sherman attended the event with his daughter, Molly, and shared his thoughts after his daughter had the opportunity to meet with and speak to several of the Holocaust survivors.
"My daughter Molly and I were honored to have the opportunity to be in the presence of Holocaust survivors and listen to their powerful stories during a solemn Congressional ceremony," said Congressman Sherman after the event. "It was heartening to see my daughter meet with such inspirational figures, and to witness firsthand the importance of educating the next generation on hate's destructive consequences and the need to speak out against antisemitism, bigotry and hate in all its forms."
