Stanford announces new faculty appointments and promotions for early to mid-2025

Stanford University has announced a series of faculty appointments, promotions, and reappointments. These changes include both permanent positions and term-based roles across various departments.

The Academic Council approved several appointments without limit of time. Orin Kerr will serve as Professor of Law starting January 1, 2025. Matthew Morrison has been appointed as Associate Professor of African and African American Studies effective February 16, 2025. Claire Wakefield is set to become a Professor of Pediatrics on June 1, 2025.

There are also appointments for fixed terms. Leslie Adams will join as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028. Md Tauhidul Islam will be an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology from February 1, 2025, to January 31, 2029. Bomi Lee takes on the role of Assistant Professor of Pediatrics during the same period.

Promotions have been granted in some areas. Christopher Re becomes a Professor of Computer Science effective January 1, 2025.

Several faculty members received reappointments for future terms. Jesse Engreitz continues as Assistant Professor of Genetics from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2029. Matthias Garten will remain an Assistant Professor in Microbiology and Immunology and Bioengineering until April 30, 2027.

University Medical Line professoriate appointments were also made public with promotions taking effect in early February next year for Theodore Leng and Suzann Pershing within the Ophthalmology department.

Additional appointments for a term include Kristin Bixel as Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology starting February next year through January end of the decade.

The announcement includes various report items detailing other key academic roles across departments like Political Science where Avidit Acharya was reappointed Senior Fellow at Hoover Institution until August next year.

Furthermore, endowed professorships have been filled with Yejin Choi being named Dieter Schwarz Foundation HAI Professor effective June next year while Michael Cohen is appointed Elizabeth Wood Dunlevie Professor by early February.

In administrative capacities Ken Goodson's tenure extends as Senior Associate Dean for Research through late summer five years from now.

These updates reflect Stanford University's ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence through strategic faculty positioning across its diverse schools and departments.
