Last week, the Native American Cultural Center (NACC) organized a bead-weaving workshop led by Tina Harness, a member of the Yupik community. This event was part of the center's activities for Native American Heritage Month. The NACC aims to support and celebrate Indigenous and Native communities throughout the year.
The university acknowledges that it is situated on land significant to the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, which is home to numerous prehistoric Native American sites.
Upcoming events at the NACC include a "Lunch and Learn" session titled “Impacts of Affirmative Action” with Mikaela Crank from the Navajo community on November 19. Additionally, there will be a screening of "Imagining the Indian: The Fight Against Native American Mascoting" featuring directors Ben West (Southern Cheyenne) and Yancey Burns on November 20.
