Eight faculty members have been appointed or reappointed as 2024 Bass University Fellows, acknowledging their significant contributions to undergraduate education. These appointments begin in the 2024-25 academic year and include an invitation to join the Bass Council of Fellows, which convenes twice annually to advise the vice provost for undergraduate education.
The Bass University Fellows in Undergraduate Education Program was established in 2001, named after Anne T., MLA ’07, and Robert M. Bass, MBA ’74. They provided matching funds to initiate the program. Each fellowship is named in honor of donors who contributed significantly to Stanford's endowment during the Campaign for Undergraduate Education that concluded in 2005. Faculty members retain their titles as Bass University Fellows in perpetuity after their terms.
Juliet Brodie has been appointed the Pritzker University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. Rodolfo Dirzo takes on the role of Sapp Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. Allyson Hobbs has been reappointed as Kleinheinz Family University Fellow. Thomas Kenny continues as Paul Davies Family University Fellow.
Joshua Landy is now Eleanor Loring Ritch University Fellow, while Kathryn Gin Lum becomes Rachford and Carlota A. Harris University Fellow. Gabriella Safran is appointed John and Lydia Pearce Mitchell University Fellow, and Jeanne Tsai has been reappointed Yumi and Yasunori Kaneko Family University Fellow.
These fellowships recognize educators from various disciplines within Stanford's schools of law, engineering, humanities and sciences.
