Stanford University's women's rowing team has secured its third consecutive conference title, sweeping the 2024 Pac-12 Women’s Rowing Championships held on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. The team achieved wins in all scoring races by at least 6 seconds over its conference rivals, culminating the day with the regatta’s maximum 45.5 points.
The Cardinal's impressive performance resulted in a 9.5-point victory over second-place California, which finished with 36 points. Washington came in third place, ending the day with 35.5 points.
Senior Belle Battistoni was named Pac-12 Women’s Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the regatta, marking Stanford’s fourth consecutive winner of this prestigious academic honor.
In an exhibition race, Stanford’s fourth varsity eight took an early lead and maintained it throughout, winning by a boat’s length. The third varsity eight set a positive tone for the scoring races of the day with a decisive victory over California.
Stanford's varsity four dominated from the start, taking their second title of the day over the Huskies and Golden Bears. This win gave Stanford a 2-point lead in the team standings.
Breaking a four-year streak of runner-up finishes in the second-varsity eight race, Stanford's second varsity eight brought home another conference championship with a 7-second victory over Washington. This put them into their final race of the day with a comfortable 4-point lead over their competitors.
Securing its third straight conference championship with a 6-second victory in the varsity eight race, Stanford demonstrated control from early on and won yet another conference title. With this win, Stanford automatically qualifies for the national championship regatta.
The Cardinal will now take two weeks to prepare for the upcoming 2024 NCAA Championships to be held on Harsha Lake at East Fork State Park in Bethel, Ohio, from May 31 to June 2.
