Four Stanford University faculty members have been recognized with the 2025 Sloan Research Fellowships, an honor bestowed upon scientists in the United States and Canada. The fellowships are awarded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to early-career researchers who demonstrate exceptional creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments.
Adam F. Falk, president of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, stated, “The Sloan Research Fellows represent the very best of early-career science, embodying the creativity, ambition, and rigor that drive discovery forward.” He added that these scholars are already contributing significantly to their fields and are expected to shape their disciplines' future.
The two-year fellowship provides recipients with $75,000 in flexible funding to support their research endeavors. This year’s recipients from Stanford include Monther Abu-Remaileh (assistant professor of chemical engineering and genetics), Barnabas Daru (assistant professor of biology and center fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment), Trithep Devakul (assistant professor of physics), and Aviad Rubinstein (assistant professor of computer science).
A total of 126 young scientists from 51 institutions across North America were selected for this prestigious fellowship in 2025. Since its inception in 1955, Stanford has seen 251 faculty members receive this award.
Eligible candidates for the fellowship must conduct research in fields such as chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, or physics. Nominations are made by fellow scientists and selections are determined by independent panels based on research achievements and potential leadership within their fields.
