Materials scientist and physicist Guosong Hong, known for his work in manipulating materials, has made a significant breakthrough. He and his team have used a common food dye found in snack chips to make living tissue transparent. This innovation allows light to pass through skin and muscle, potentially revolutionizing medical imaging by enabling doctors to see deep into the body without surgery.

Hong discussed this development on Stanford Engineering's podcast, The Future of Everything, hosted by Russ Altman. "It’s a miracle of physics but it could change medicine," Hong stated during the episode.

This research was initially reported by Stanford Engineering.

Stanford University continues to provide news, insights, and events updates each weekday morning from its location in Stanford, California.
