Stanford Medicine has received a $37 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to enhance mental health services. The National Center for Mental Health: Dissemination, Implementation and Sustainment at Stanford will lead the initiative under the guidance of Heather Gotham, PhD, a clinical professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
The center aims to improve access to mental health services for underserved and historically minoritized populations by developing practical resources and providing targeted assistance. This will involve creating five bi-regional centers that support the design and delivery of mental health services.
Heather Gotham stated, "We know what the effective interventions for mental health and substance use disorders are; however, providers need substantial support to integrate them into their work." She emphasized that this new approach will help providers embed these interventions into their practices, ultimately enhancing care for those with the greatest need.
Gotham expressed her enthusiasm about leading this innovative effort: "This type of center is new, and I’m excited and honored that we have this opportunity to be leading it."
The story was initially published by Stanford Medicine.
