Stanford postdoctoral scholar Jennifer Maier views the Olympics through a unique lens, particularly focusing on volleyball. Maier, who earned her PhD from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, joined Stanford to collaborate with professors Ellen Kuhl and Scott Delp as part of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance’s Digital Athlete project.
Her research is centered on advancing personalized human performance modeling, specifically in volleyball hitting. By developing new tools in musculoskeletal modeling and simulation, Maier aims to unravel the complex anatomy and mechanics involved in hitting a volleyball. The goal of her work is to help athletes optimize their performance while reducing the risk of injury.
Maier's own experience as a seasoned volleyball player for over 20 years fuels her dedication to enhancing others' athletic performance and protecting their bodies from high-performance sports' wear and tear.
