Katie Ledecky captures American record-tying 8th Olympic gold while Torri Huske secures silver for her third medal in Paris.
PARIS - Katie Ledecky's legend continues to grow as she claimed the 1500m freestyle medal in dominating fashion, securing her 8th career Olympic gold.
Ledecky posted an Olympic-record time of 15:30.02, tying the American record for most career gold medals. "HER. RACE." was a common sentiment among fans and commentators alike as she broke her own Olympic record and now holds the top 20 times in world history for the event.
The win tied Ledecky for both the most Olympic gold medals (8) and most total Olympic medals (12) by an American woman, sharing the record with another Stanford alum. Ledecky will look to surpass this mark later in the week when she competes in the 800m freestyle beginning Friday.
In another notable performance, Torri Huske continued her impressive run in Paris with a silver medal finish in the 100m freestyle, clocking a personal best of 52.29 from lane one. This marks Huske's third medal of the 2024 Olympics; she previously won her first career Olympic gold in the 100m butterfly on Sunday and secured silver with Team USA in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
Tuesday's silver medal concludes Huske's individual Olympic program, but she may still compete in both the 4x100 mixed medley relay and women's medley relay later this week.
