Angela Nomellini and Ram Shriram have been named the recipients of the 2023-24 Gold Spike Award, Stanford's highest annual honor for volunteer service. The awards were presented by President Richard Saller at a dinner held in their honor on April 20.
According to Stanford Associates, Angela Nomellini has been a dedicated volunteer for Stanford for 25 years, particularly showing a strong commitment to the Graduate School of Education (GSE) and Stanford Athletics. She has been praised for her deep knowledge, generosity, and enthusiasm, serving as a volunteer leader, fundraiser, advisor, ambassador, and fan. Nomellini's contributions to the GSE Advisory Council, her involvement in the creation of the new GSE campus, and her support for the Stanford Athletics Women's Initiative have been highlighted as key achievements.
Ram Shriram, on the other hand, has been recognized as an intellectually curious changemaker with a significant impact on Stanford. Described as a visionary leader, Shriram has been a strong advocate and fundraiser for initiatives in bioengineering and AI. His service on the Board of Trustees, including leading the Special Committee on Online Education, and his involvement in various advisory boards and committees have been instrumental in helping Stanford reach its strategic objectives.
