PALO ALTO, C.A. – On June 24 Representative Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision.
“Today is the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning the right to abortion in its ruling of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. It’s the first time in our nation’s history that a Supreme Court has taken a Constitutional right away from Americans.
Following the decision, 14 states banned abortion, many with no exceptions for rape and incest, and 12 additional states are working to enact restrictive abortion laws. Tens of millions of American women have been left desperate, confused, and fearful. Abortion bans are leading to life-threatening health complications such as women being forced to continue high-risk ectopic pregnancies or contracting sepsis after being refused needed care.
Extreme abortion bans are an egregious assault on women. I’ve spent my entire adult life advancing the equality of women and girls and protecting and defending choice, and I will continue to do everything I can to restore this right. Everyone should have the freedom to control their own body.”
