Week ending Aug. 22: 2 patents granted in Los Altos

Patent 11

There were two patents granted in Los Altos in the week ending Aug. 22, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is three less than the week before. Patents included a system and method for pre-enrollment and network pre-configuration of internet of things (iot) devices.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 22 belonged to Afero, Inc. who filed in Nov. 28, 2018.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
