DR TJ OWENS GILROY EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY: Message from Superintendent Flores: update on hybrid learning model survey

Belended

Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy issued the following on Nov. 13

Message from Superintendent Flores: update on hybrid learning model survey

On Friday, November 6, 2020, you received a survey from the district about a proposed hybrid learning model for all students.  Members of the GUSD Reopening Planning Committee and district staff wanted input about this proposed model from parents to assist us in our planning process.

On Monday evening, November 9, members of the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC), comprised of parents from all school sites, shared valuable feedback about the survey questions with me.  This week, we have received similar input from parents and guardians in our district via email.  You shared that there was confusion about the content of the survey and that you needed clarity before answering the survey questions.  Given this input, we realized that we need to regroup and issue a follow-up survey that provides a clear explanation of the proposed model and the structure of the hybrid learning model. Based on this conclusion, the November 6 survey will be closed effective immediately, and we will not incorporate any of the data received into the planning process.  I am sorry for the confusion and I want to thank you for your feedback.

We understand that the prospect of a potential return to in-person learning, in any capacity, will raise a number of questions for families, staff members and students alike.  While we continue to try to anticipate questions you may have, we do not have many answers as guidelines evolve and restrictions change.  I continue to welcome your questions and input because it is critical in our planning process.  Please continue to participate in the planning process by participating in the next survey we send to you in the coming weeks.  I know the uncertainty of the next steps for our district is difficult, and I want to assure you that the safety of all members of our school communities are our highest priority.  I appreciate your continued patience as we work to meet the current challenges before us.
