Incoming Stanford freshman Alyssa Ahn has earned a place in the main draw of the 2025 US Open after winning the singles title at the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championships in San Diego.
Ahn, seeded seventh in the tournament, defeated Maya Iyengar, the No. 17 seed, with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the final match. In earlier rounds, she overcame Alexis Nguyen in a three-set semifinal and beat top-seeded Akasha Urhobo during a lengthy quarterfinal match.
With this victory, Ahn becomes the first player since Lauren Davis to win both the BJK Girls’ 16s and 18s titles. Davis won those events between 2008 and 2011.
Ahn will join sophomore Valerie Glozman from Stanford in the US Open main draw. Glozman secured her wild card by winning the women’s singles title at the American Collegiate Wild Card Playoffs held in June.
Ahn is part of what is considered one of the top recruiting classes nationally for Stanford women’s tennis this year. She joins Monika Ekstrand and Tianmei Wang—both ranked among the nation’s top five high school seniors according to Tennis Recruiting Network—as incoming blue-chip recruits.
“Ahn, also the 2022 Girls’ 16s champion is the first to win both BJK 16s and 18s since Lauren Davis was 16s champion in both 2008 and 2009 and 18s champion in 2011.”
