Stanford University’s men’s wrestling team began its 2025-26 season with a loss to Utah Valley, falling 19-12 at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. The Cardinal, ranked No. 14 nationally, were without several key starters, including All-Americans Daniel Cardenas and Hunter Garvin.

Despite the absence of these athletes, Stanford managed to win four out of ten bouts against the Wolverines. Returning All-American Tyler Knox secured an 8-4 decision over Geronimo Rivera at 133 pounds by scoring a takedown, an escape, and two reversals.

Redshirt freshman EJ Parco earned a victory at 157 pounds in a high-scoring match against Mark Takara. After trailing 13-5 following the first period, Parco came back to win 19-16 with three takedowns, four near fall points, and an escape during the final two periods.

Collin Guffey, also a redshirt freshman, defeated Tanner Lofthouse at 174 pounds with a score of 2-0. Guffey’s win was achieved through an escape and securing the riding time point.

True freshman Angelo Posada made his debut for Stanford with a narrow 5-4 decision over Kael Bennie at 197 pounds. Entering the final period tied at three points each, Posada chose to start down and executed a reversal that proved decisive.

Stanford will continue its road schedule next week with a match against No. 5 Oklahoma State on Friday.
