Stanford University’s women’s soccer team will continue its five-match homestand on Sunday, hosting No. 16 Santa Clara in a game that highlights recent national success for both programs. Stanford and Santa Clara have each claimed national championships in the past six years, with Stanford winning in 2019 and Santa Clara taking the title in the 2020-21 season.
The two teams have developed a close rivalry, with nine of their last ten matches being decided by one goal or fewer. In their most recent NCAA Tournament meeting, Santa Clara eliminated Stanford in 2022. Last season, Lizzie Boamah scored her first career goal to give Stanford a 1-0 win over Santa Clara.
Stanford has started the current year with a win against San Francisco, another team from the West Coast Conference (WCC).
Both programs are recognized for producing top players and consistent success at the national level.
