Stanford University’s women’s soccer team secured a 5-1 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday at Cagan Stadium, bringing their season record to 2-0. The match saw Stanford dominate offensively, outshooting Santa Clara 28-2 and holding a 19-0 shot advantage in the first half.
Senior Allie Montoya opened the scoring for Stanford in the 14th minute after receiving a pass from Jasmine Aikey, moving past a defender and sending her shot into the net. In the 28th minute, Charlotte Kohler drew a penalty in the box, which redshirt senior Andrea Kitahata converted for her first goal of the season and the 23rd of her career.
Elise Evans added to Stanford’s lead in the 31st minute by capitalizing on her own rebound following a corner kick. After leading 3-0 at halftime, Stanford increased its advantage early in the second half when Joelle Jung scored off an assist from Montoya.
Santa Clara managed to score in the 89th minute with their second shot of the game. Less than half a minute later, freshman Milly Bray responded for Stanford with a long-range left-footed goal against Santa Clara’s second-half goalkeeper Ally Reynolds.
Stanford is scheduled to play two more home matches next week, starting with San Diego State on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
