Stanford University’s women’s water polo team defeated Indiana University 16-4 on Mar. 28 in Bloomington, Indiana, marking its last road match of the regular season.
The win comes just six days after Stanford experienced its only loss of the season. The team responded with a strong offensive showing against Indiana, improving to a record of 10-1 overall and 4-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. Indiana fell to 15-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Kamryn Barone and Juliette Dhalluin each scored three goals for Stanford, leading an offense that saw nine different players contribute goals. Serena Browne, Jenna Flynn, and Ella Woodhead also scored multiple times as Stanford reached at least fifteen goals for the seventh time this season. The Cardinal held Indiana scoreless through the first half while scoring consistently across all four quarters.
Stanford quickly established control with a five-goal lead after one period, capped by Amber Nowaczek’s goal late in the quarter. By halftime, Stanford led 8-0 following additional scores from Woodhead and Barone. After Indiana managed two early third-quarter goals to make it 10-2, Dhalluin answered with back-to-back scores for Stanford.
Christine Carpenter made eight saves during her time as goalkeeper in the first half before Jackie King took over for the final two periods and recorded three stops.
Looking ahead, Stanford will return home to host California at Avery Aquatic Center on April 4 for Senior Day and another edition of the Big Splash rivalry game. In their recent history over twelve seasons, Stanford has won twenty-two out of twenty-seven meetings against California.
