Stanford women’s volleyball falls to top-ranked Nebraska in straight sets

No. 6 Stanford was defeated in straight sets by No. 1 Nebraska on Sunday at the AVCA First Serve Showcase, held at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. The set scores were 25-13, 25-19, and 25-14.

Stanford now holds a 1-1 record following the loss, while Nebraska improves to 2-0. The Huskers limited Stanford to a .094 hitting percentage and outperformed them with a .385 hitting clip. Nebraska also led in blocks (9.0 to 2.0) and digs (56 to 35). With this win, Nebraska has won three consecutive matches against Stanford, though Stanford still leads the all-time series between the teams at 10-9.

Senior Elia Rubin led Stanford’s offense with eight kills and seven digs. Redshirt sophomore Ipar Kurt contributed seven kills and one dig. Opposite Jordyn Harvey finished with four kills, three digs, and an assist. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew added four kills on .308 hitting along with a block and her first collegiate ace.

Freshman Erika Sayer registered five kills and one block for the Cardinal, while freshman libero Spencer Etzler collected a match-high of 15 digs—she is averaging 4.29 digs per set over her first two collegiate appearances.

Sophomore setter Taylor Yu posted 15 assists and four digs; freshman setter/opposite Logan Parks recorded ten assists, two kills, three digs, and two blocks.

Nebraska had three players reach double-digit kills: Allie Sczech led with twelve; Rebekah Allick tallied eleven on .600 hitting along with five blocks; Harper Murray finished with ten kills, nine digs, and two blocks.

Stanford continues its road trip next week facing Long Beach State on Friday before playing Oregon State on Saturday at Walter Pyramid.
