Stanford women’s volleyball completes season sweep over Cal with straight-set victory

Stanford University’s women’s volleyball team achieved a season sweep over California, winning in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) at Haas Pavilion on Sunday. The Cardinal, ranked No. 5 nationally, improved their record to 25-4 overall and 16-2 in the ACC.

The team recorded a season-high of 14 service aces during the match. Six Stanford players each contributed multiple aces, with outside hitter Julia Blyashov and setter Logan Tusher each serving three. Stanford finished with a .289 hitting percentage while limiting Cal to .133.

Blyashov led Stanford with nine kills, six digs, and one block. Senior Elia Rubin added eight kills on .333 hitting along with nine digs, two blocks, and two aces.

Tusher made her first collegiate start and posted career highs in several categories: three aces, five digs, two blocks, and 25 assists. Libero Spencer Etzler collected a match-best 11 digs along with two aces and an assist.

Middle blocker Erika Sayer had four kills on .500 hitting and led all players with six blocks. Fellow middle blocker Lizzy Andrew contributed three kills and four blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey added six kills, four digs, five blocks, two aces, and two assists.

Serving specialist Koko Kirsch notched two aces for Stanford as well. Sophomore Sidney Duncan entered late in the third set and registered a career-high of two kills on as many swings to secure match point.

With this win, Stanford now holds an all-time record of 88 wins to 12 losses against California.

Stanford will host Georgia Tech next Wednesday for Senior Day at home. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on ACCNX. Afterward, the team will honor seniors Elia Rubin and Anna Pringle in a postmatch ceremony.
