No. 3 Stanford women’s swimming and diving team began the new year with a strong performance, winning 11 out of 13 events against UCLA and finishing with a score of 156-87.

Gigi Johnson delivered a standout performance in the 100 fly, setting a personal record with a time of 50.51 seconds. This result places her fifth on Stanford’s all-time list for the event. Johnson had previously set another personal best earlier in the season at the Texas Swim Invitational.

Lucy Thomas was the only Stanford swimmer to win more than one event during Friday’s meet. She won the 100 free in 48.70 seconds and later secured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.33.

Other individual winners for Stanford included Annam Olasewere in the 50 free (21.73), Caroline Bricker in the 200 free (1:43.98), Emily Thompson in the 500 free (4:48.91), and Torri Huske in the 100 IM (52.56).

Stanford also found success in relay races, starting with Alana Berlin, Lucy Bell, Johnson, and Olasewere winning the opening 400 medley relay with a time of 3:28.62. The meet concluded with Huske, Johnson, Kayla Wilson, and Jamie Brennan winning the 400 free relay at 3:14:00.

In diving events, Molly Gray won both titles for Stanford by taking first place on both the 1-meter board (291.98) and the 3-meter board (325.13).

Stanford will compete next against No. 11 USC tomorrow at 11 a.m., continuing their weekend schedule.

“I am proud of how our team started off this weekend,” said head coach Greg Meehan after Friday’s victory.
