Stanford University’s women’s soccer team secured a 5-1 victory over the University of Southern California (USC) on Thursday night at Rawlinson Stadium in Los Angeles. The win marks Stanford’s first road game of the season and improves their record to 6-0-0, while USC falls to 3-1-1.
Stanford opened the scoring in the 25th minute when redshirt senior captain Andrea Kitahata found the net from outside the penalty area. Jasmine Aikey, Stanford’s leading scorer, added her sixth goal of the season in the 57th minute after a sequence involving Charlotte Kohler and Kitahata.
Sophomore Eleanor Klinger scored twice late in the match, with goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes. Freshman Brooke Holden assisted on Klinger’s first goal before Klinger scored again from distance just minutes later. “A candidate for goal of the year, Klinger’s second tally secured her first career multi-goal match,” according to Stanford Athletics.
USC managed one goal late in regulation before Holden completed Stanford’s scoring with her third goal of the season in the 86th minute, following an assist from Jaden Thomas.
Freshman Caroline Birkel started as goalkeeper for Stanford and played until late in the match, when sophomore Kaiya Jota took over.
Stanford will continue its road trip by facing No. 18 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
