Stanford University’s women’s basketball team is set to face No. 19 Tennessee in a matchup as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday, December 3 at Maples Pavilion. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2, with Krista Blunk and Stephanie White providing commentary. Radio coverage will be available through GoStanford.com, the Stanford Athletics app, and Learfield’s Varsity Network with Tim Swartz.

Stanford enters the contest with an 8-1 record and holds the No. 22 spot in the NET rankings as of December 1, marking an improvement over last season when their highest ranking was No. 30 on December 12. The Cardinal currently leads the ACC in scoring defense, allowing just 51.9 points per game, which also ranks them twelfth nationally. In addition, Stanford tops both the ACC and sits eighth in the country for free throw percentage at .826.

Across nine games this season, Stanford players have recorded 32 double-digit scoring performances but only three games where a player scored more than twenty points. During a recent win against Lehigh on November 23, Stanford shot 66.7 percent from the field (38-of-57), representing the third-best shooting performance in program history.

Nunu Agara has emerged as a key contributor for Stanford this season, averaging 16 points and 8.6 rebounds per game—making her one of eight major conference players to achieve these numbers so far this year. Freshman Lara Somfai is also making an impact by averaging 10.8 points and 8.9 rebounds; she is tied for first nationally in defensive rebound percentage at 36.2 percent among Power Four freshmen.

Chloe Clardy provides significant production off the bench with averages of 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.2 steals per game—one of only two players nationwide to reach those marks while not starting regularly.

The Cardinal maintains roster stability with only one transfer among all Power Four programs’ rosters this season—the fewest among those teams.

Historically, Stanford trails Tennessee in their all-time series (14-25) but has won four consecutive meetings—a program record—with ten victories coming at home in Maples Pavilion. Their last encounter took place on December 18, 2022; Stanford secured a win with Cameron Brink leading the way with twenty-one points, seventeen rebounds, and six blocks.

This upcoming meeting will mark just the fourth time both teams are unranked in the AP Top 25 during their matchup; however, Stanford has won seven of their last eight home games against Tennessee.

“We’re looking forward to another competitive chapter in our rivalry,” said representatives from both programs ahead of Wednesday’s game.
