Stanford University’s women’s rowing team began its 2026 season with five wins over the University of Tennessee on March 28, sweeping all races held at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The event marked Stanford’s first competition of the spring and set a strong tone for the rest of their campaign. The Cardinal faced off against fourth-ranked Tennessee, winning every race by significant margins.
Stanford’s third varsity eight opened the day with an almost eight-second victory over Tennessee. The second varsity four followed with a win just over one second ahead of their opponents. In the first varsity four race, Stanford secured its largest margin, finishing nearly 17 seconds before Tennessee.
The success continued as Stanford’s second varsity eight crossed the line almost nine seconds ahead. The morning concluded with a win from the varsity eight crew, who finished about four seconds in front of their Volunteer rivals.
The Cardinal now prepares for its next challenge at the Big Ten Invite scheduled for April 18-19 at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California. Racing schedules are expected to be released on April 13.
