Stanford University’s women’s lacrosse team lost to No. 2-ranked North Carolina on April 10, with a final score of 18-9 in Chapel Hill. The game marked Stanford’s penultimate Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) contest of the season, leaving the Cardinal with an overall record of 11-3 and a conference record of 7-2.
The match was notable for Annabel Frist, who set a new program record for career draw controls, reaching a total of 376 and surpassing Genesis Lucero’s previous mark of 372. Aliya Polisky led Stanford offensively with four points from two goals and two assists. Lexi Rodell and Frist each scored twice, while Martha Oakey contributed three points including two assists.
Stanford started strong, taking an early lead after Polisky scored less than two minutes into the game. The Cardinal defense forced five turnovers in the first quarter and limited North Carolina to one goal on four shots during that period. However, North Carolina responded in the second quarter with a four-goal run, three coming from free-position shots.
Despite efforts by Rylee Bouvier and Ava Arceri to keep Stanford close before halftime, North Carolina held a narrow lead at the break. In the third quarter, both teams traded goals but UNC extended its advantage through additional free-position scores.
North Carolina secured its win by opening the fourth quarter with four quick goals. Although Stanford managed late goals from Frist and Rodell, they could not overcome UNC’s offensive surge.
Looking ahead, Stanford will conclude its nonconference schedule against Elon on Sunday at Rudd Field.
