Stanford women’s golf sent three players to the Silicon Valley Showcase at Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, Calif., with all finishing in the top half of the field, according to a March 31 announcement.
The performance highlights Stanford’s depth as its golfers faced challenging conditions on the par-71 course. The event offered an opportunity for individual competitors while several teammates prepared for another major tournament.
Leigh Chien led Stanford’s contingent by tying for 19th place with a total score of nine-over-par 222. Chien posted rounds of 73, 74, and 75. She overcame a rough start in her opening round by playing her final holes one-under and bogey-free, helping her move up the leaderboard. Chien recorded four birdies during the week.
Kaila Elsayegh finished tied for 24th at eleven-over-par 224 after shooting rounds of 72, 75, and 77. Elsayegh had six birdies over the last two rounds but also recorded four double bogeys across both days. Cleaning up those mistakes could have placed her closer to a top-10 finish.
Nora Sundberg tied for 29th with a twelve-over-par total of 225. She opened with Stanford’s lowest round of the week—a one-under-par score of seventy—featuring seven birdies along with two bogeys and two double bogeys. Sundberg followed that round with scores of seventy-seven and seventy-eight in her first tournament appearance of the year.
Meanwhile, five members of Stanford’s team are competing this week at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia as part of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. That event begins Wednesday and includes thirty-six holes before cutting to thirty players plus ties who will play Saturday’s final round.
