Stanford University’s women’s tennis team defeated Virginia Tech 4-0 on Apr. 3 in the first match played at the new Arrillaga Tennis Center.
The opening of the Arrillaga Tennis Center marks a significant addition to Stanford’s athletic facilities, providing enhanced resources for players and fans alike.
The facility, which took two years to complete, features 12 outdoor courts with seating for 1,005 and space for up to 1,500 spectators. The center also includes more than 12,410 square feet dedicated to team use. A dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting were held after the match before the men’s dual against Wake Forest.
On court, Sein Myoung clinched victory for Stanford at No. 5 singles by defeating Alston Myatt with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Monika Ekstrand secured an early lead on court one with a straight-set win over Ozlem Uslu (6-2, 6-2), while Alyssa Ahn beat Arina Gamretkaia on court two (6-1, 6-1). Other Cardinal players—Caroline Driscoll, Tianmei Wang and Morgan Shaffer—were leading their matches when play concluded.
In doubles action, Ekstrand and Wang won at No. 2 doubles while Valerie Glozman teamed up with Myoung for victory at No. 3 doubles. The only doubles loss came at No. 1 where Virginia Tech’s Gamretkaia and Uslu defeated Ahn and Driscoll.
Stanford will next host ninth-ranked Virginia on Sunday at home. Seniors Caroline Driscoll and Emma Sun are scheduled to be honored in a post-match ceremony.
