Amanda Leland has been named assistant general manager for Stanford Cardinal men’s basketball, according to an announcement from Kyle Smith, the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball. The position is newly created as part of efforts to strengthen the program.
“Amanda is a team builder with a clear sense of purpose,” Smith said. “She understands the complexities of modern college athletics and brings both operational excellence and a deep commitment to the student-athlete experience. We’re fortunate to add her to our team!”
Leland comes to Stanford after 13 years at Pacific, where she held several roles. She served as director of operations for the women’s basketball program for ten years and spent three years in development positions, including associate director of annual giving on the university side and Director of Athletics Development/Pacific Athletic Foundation.
Before her time at Pacific, Leland worked at Kansas with the women’s basketball program from 2005-2012. She was administrative assistant to head coach Bonnie Hendrickson from 2007-2012 and interned with the University of Kansas Williams Educational Fund, acting as a liaison between coaches and teams while coordinating donor events.
In her new role at Stanford, Leland will manage key operational areas such as financial oversight, scheduling coordination, and strategic planning support. She will also lead initiatives in fundraising, alumni relations, event programming, and work on enhancing experiences for student-athletes and supporters.
Leland earned four varsity letters in rowing at Kansas and was part of the team that won the 2003 Big XII Rowing Championship. She was recognized as an Athletics Scholar four times and represented rowing on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
She holds a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Pacific (2016) and graduated from Kansas in 2005 with a degree in communications focused on sports management.
Her father, Ted Leland, previously served as Stanford’s Director of Athletics for 14 years (1991-2005) and held similar roles at Pacific.
