Stanford men’s water polo adds All-American goalkeeper Bernardo Herzer

Stanford announced on Apr. 1 that Bernardo Herzer, a two-time All-America selection and former University of Southern California goalkeeper, will join the Cardinal men’s water polo team. The news was shared by Brian Flacks, The Dunlevie Family Director of Men’s Water Polo.

Herzer played three seasons with the USC Trojans, appearing in 58 games and recording a total of 480 saves. His most recent season saw him earn Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America First Team honors after playing in 25 games and averaging 9.3 saves per game. During that season, he also received NCAA and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MWPSF) All-Tournament Team recognition.

In the previous year, Herzer was named an ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention while averaging 9.6 saves over 19 games as a redshirt freshman. He achieved double-digit saves in nine contests that season, including key performances with ten saves each in both the MPSF final and NCAA semifinal.

Last season, Herzer participated in 14 games for USC and made a total of 79 saves for an average of 5.6 per game.

Herzer is originally from Los Angeles and attended Mira Costa High School.

Stanford men’s tennis ended its season with a loss to TCU in the NCAA Super Regionals. The Cardinal finished with a 19-9 record after competing for their eighteenth straight tournament appearance.
