Stanford University’s men’s volleyball team, ranked No. 14, will finish its regular season this week with two matches against Menlo College, according to an April 15 announcement. The Cardinal will travel to Atherton on Friday and then host the Oaks for Senior Night at Maples Pavilion on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.

The upcoming games mark the end of a challenging season for Stanford, which currently holds a record of 9-14 overall and 6-6 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. The conclusion of the regular season is significant as it determines seeding and momentum heading into postseason tournaments.

Last week, Stanford lost both of its MPSF matches against No. 5 Pepperdine University, dropping one match in straight sets and another in four sets. The team’s hitting percentage over those two games was .191. Opposite Moses Wagner led Stanford offensively with averages of 3.43 kills and 3.64 points per set during those contests, while libero Evan Porter contributed a team-best average of 1.57 digs per set.

In preseason polls conducted by league coaches, Stanford was picked to finish fourth in the MPSF standings this year behind UCLA—which received four first-place votes—and tied-for-second teams Pepperdine and USC.

Statistically within the conference this season, Stanford ranks fourth in digs per set (7.90), fifth in hitting percentage (.272), assists (10.63), and blocks (2.13). Individually, Wagner is fifth among all players for kills per set (3.32) and points per set (3.98), while Porter leads the conference with an average of 2.22 digs per set.

Three Cardinal players have earned a total of four weekly honors from the MPSF this year: Wagner has been recognized twice more by the conference as well as named AVCA National Player of the Week on March 17; Alex Rottman received his first career honor; Porter also earned his first weekly award.

There has been a recent change among assistant coaches: Matt Houlihan returns as interim Al Roderigues Assistant Coach after eight seasons as volunteer assistant between 2017–2024, replacing Spencer Wickens who left for an assistant coaching position at Minnesota’s women’s program.

Looking ahead to next year’s roster changes, Stanford signed four high school recruits—Peter Debiec from North Carolina; Declan Flanagan from California; Aleksey Mikhailenko from Wisconsin; Lincoln Myers also from Wisconsin—to join starting fall semester in 2026.

Head coach John Kosty completed his nineteenth season leading Stanford’s program last year—his thirty-fifth overall on staff—with a career record now standing at 282 wins and 252 losses.
