Stanford University’s men’s volleyball team lost to the University of California, Los Angeles in three straight sets on March 27 at Maples Pavilion. The match ended with scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-20, ending Stanford’s six-match winning streak.
The defeat marked Stanford’s first loss in conference play this season. UCLA maintained its undefeated record with a team hitting percentage of .373 while holding Stanford to .164. The Cardinal finished the match with 6.5 blocks, 19 digs, and three aces.
Outside hitter Alex Rottman led Stanford with eight kills, four digs, a block, and an ace. Opposite Moses Wagner contributed seven kills and three blocks for the Cardinal. Freshman setter Jacob Little-Phillips recorded 21 assists along with two digs and an ace. Sophomore libero Evan Porter collected a match-best six digs.
Additional contributions came from outside hitter Nate Clinton who registered six kills on .300 hitting along with five digs, two blocks, and an ace; middle blocker Luke McFall added five kills on a .375 attack percentage plus a block; sophomore Kaumana Carreira had three kills on .400 hitting and led the team with four blocks.
Senior Theoren Brouillette and sophomore David Wolff entered as substitutes during both the second and third sets for Wagner and Little-Phillips respectively. Brouillette posted six assists and one dig while Wolff recorded one kill and one block.
UCLA was led by senior middle blocker Cameron Thorne who had a match-high ten kills on .750 hitting along with two blocks and two aces. Opposite David Decker added six kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks for UCLA.
Stanford is scheduled to face UCLA again Saturday at Maples Pavilion.
