Stanford University lost in straight sets to top-ranked UCLA on March 28 at Maples Pavilion, with scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-21. The defeat marks the second consecutive night that No. 14 Stanford has fallen to the Bruins.
The loss drops Stanford’s record to 9-10 overall and 6-2 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play, with six matches remaining this season. UCLA remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and has reached a perfect 20-0 overall for the first time since 1984.
Four Cardinal players each recorded a team-high six kills during the match. Sophomore libero Evan Porter led all players with seven digs. As a team, Stanford posted a .292 hitting percentage but was outpaced by UCLA’s .380 attack rate. The Bruins registered seven service aces—four from outside hitter Zach Rama—and led both in kills (45 to Stanford’s 32) and blocks (5.0 to Stanford’s 4.0).
Freshman setter Jacob Little-Phillips guided the Cardinal offense with 24 assists and contributed three kills, an ace, a block, and a dig. Middle blocker Kaumana Carreira hit .500 while tallying six kills and two blocks. Opposite Moses Wagner matched his teammates with six kills along with three digs, an ace, and a block.
UCLA was led by Rama’s twelve kills on .429 hitting; outside hitter Sean Kelly added eleven kills on a .529 clip plus an ace, dig, and block.
Looking ahead, Stanford will begin a five-match road trip against No. 4 USC on Friday and Saturday. Both upcoming matches are scheduled for streaming on B1G+.
