Stanford University’s men’s volleyball team was defeated by UC Santa Barbara in straight sets at Maples Pavilion on Friday. The match concluded with scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-16 in favor of the Gauchos.
Stanford, currently ranked No. 14 and holding a season record of 1-4, posted a .155 hitting percentage, their lowest of the season. UC Santa Barbara, ranked No. 17 with a record of 5-1, finished with a .402 hitting percentage.
Theo Snoey and Moses Wagner led Stanford’s offense, each recording nine kills. Snoey also contributed two aces, two digs, and one block. Wagner added four digs, two blocks, and an ace.
Jacob Little-Phillips started as setter for the Cardinal and tallied 20 assists along with five digs. In the third set, senior Theoren Brouillette took over setting duties and registered eight assists, two digs, and a block.
Kaumana Carreira hit .600 for Stanford with six kills on ten errorless attempts and made three blocks. Senior Luke McFall led the team defensively with four blocks. Alex Rottman provided four kills, three digs, and two blocks while playing in two sets.
At libero, sophomores Kai Schmitt and Evan Porter shared time; Porter collected four digs.
UC Santa Barbara’s George Bruening had 14 kills on .400 hitting to go along with two digs and three blocks. Riggs Guy added 11 kills at a .474 attack percentage plus six digs for the Gauchos.
Stanford will play its next matches on the road against No. 5 UC Irvine on January 30th and 31st.
