Stanford University’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-2 win over Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, marking the team’s first ACC road victory of the season. The Cardinal, ranked No. 12 nationally, improved their record to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The match was notable for head coach Paul Goldstein, who reached his 200th career win with Stanford. He becomes only the second coach in program history to achieve this milestone, joining Dick Gould.
Duke took an early lead by winning doubles matches on courts one and three. However, Stanford responded strongly in singles play. Nico Godsick tied the match with a straight-set victory on court five but Duke regained the advantage with a win on court six. Godsick finished the road trip undefeated in singles matches.
Hudson Rivera earned his first singles win of the season at the top position, defeating his opponent in straight sets to even the score at 2-2. Jagger Leach then put Stanford ahead after winning a tiebreaker in the second set on court three.
Alex Razeghi clinched the overall victory for Stanford with a straight-set win on court four. This marked Razeghi’s third match-clinching performance of the year and he now leads the team with 12 singles wins this season, remaining unbeaten in dual matches.
Stanford now holds a 10-2 all-time record against Duke and is undefeated against them as members of the ACC.
The Cardinal will next face Virginia Tech at home on March 6 at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion, with play scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
