Stanford men’s tennis defeated North Carolina State University, 4-3, in a closely contested match at the Arrillaga Tennis Center on April 5. The Cardinal improved its season record to 15-7 and now stands at 8-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The result is significant as it marks Stanford’s second consecutive victory by a single point margin and completes a weekend sweep to open its new stadium. The win also improves Stanford’s all-time record against NC State to 2-1.
Stanford gained an early advantage by winning two of three doubles matches. Samir Banerjee and Jagger Leach won their match on court three, while Alex Razeghi and Alex Chang clinched the doubles point with their sixteenth win as partners this season. In singles play, Razeghi delivered a standout performance with a straight-set victory over the nation’s No. 21 player, marking his highest-ranked career win. Hudson Rivera added another point for Stanford before NC State rallied to tie the score at three each.
Freshman Jagger Leach secured the overall team victory for Stanford on court five after a hard-fought three-set battle: “Coming down to his court for the second consecutive match, Jagger Leach clinched the victory on court five in three sets, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 6-4.” This improved Leach’s dual play record this season to fourteen wins and five losses.
Before competition began, seniors Banerjee—an All-American both athletically and academically—and Chang were recognized for their contributions during their time with the program.
Looking ahead, Stanford will face California next Saturday at home.
