Stanford University’s men’s tennis team lost to Clemson University, 4-2, in a match played on March 28. The contest marked the end of Stanford’s four-game road trip and moved their season record to 13 wins and 7 losses, with a conference record of 6-4.

The outcome is significant as it affects Stanford’s standing in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as they approach their final three conference matches at home. This loss also represents only the first time since 2000 that Stanford has faced Clemson on the tennis court, reducing their all-time series lead to seven wins and one loss.

During doubles play, Samir Banerjee and Jagger Leach held a lead on court three for Stanford, but Clemson secured victories at the top two positions to take an early advantage. In singles action, Hudson Rivera earned his tenth singles win of the season with a straight-set victory on court four. Nico Godsick followed by winning his eighth consecutive ACC singles match and also reached ten singles victories for the year.

Despite tying the overall score at two points each after these wins by Rivera and Godsick, Stanford was unable to maintain momentum. Clemson clinched the match by securing victories in singles matches on courts two and five.

Stanford will return home for its next contest against No. 1 Wake Forest at Arrillaga Tennis Center on Friday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m., where they will begin their final stretch of ACC regular-season play.
