Stanford University’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-1 win over Utah in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion. The victory improves Stanford’s season record to 3-0.
Utah took an early lead in doubles, winning on courts one and three after tiebreakers. Stanford’s Samir Banerjee and Alex Razeghi managed a win on court two, but it was not enough to secure the doubles point for their team.
In singles play, Stanford gained momentum with four first-set victories. Banerjee evened the score by defeating Dante Teramo 6-0, 6-2 at the top position. Jagger Leach then put Stanford ahead with a 6-2, 6-2 result on court five. Mark Krupkin extended the lead by earning his first career dual win on court six, and Alex Chang clinched the match for Stanford with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court two.
With this result, Stanford now holds a 40-3 all-time record against Utah. The team will next compete against either Oregon or Rice on Saturday, January 24 at noon. The winner will move forward to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
