Stanford men’s tennis defeats San Diego State to extend home winning streak

No. 4 Stanford University’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over San Diego State on Thursday, continuing its undefeated start to the season and extending its home winning streak to 26 matches.

The Cardinal has now won all 14 encounters against the Aztecs in their series history. In doubles play, Stanford clinched the opening point with wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Jagger Leach and Mark Krupkin posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Alex Razeghi and Hudson Rivera won at No. 1 doubles by a score of 7-5.

Leach also delivered in singles competition, defeating Lars Johann of San Diego State in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 position. San Diego State picked up its only point of the match at No. 6 singles.

Stanford then secured the overall victory with wins from Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles spots respectively. Chang defeated Finn Willman, ranked as the nation’s No. 67 player, with scores of 7-6 and 6-0. Razeghi clinched the match for Stanford by winning his service game to close out a two-set victory over Eugenio Gonzales, finishing with scores of 7-5 and 6-4.

Matches involving Hudson Rivera (No. 2 singles) and Mark Krupkin (No. 5 singles) were left unfinished after Stanford clinched the overall win.

Stanford will next host Utah on Friday, January 23 during ITA Kickoff Weekend before facing either Oregon or Rice on Saturday, January 24.
