Stanford men’s water polo defeats UC Davis to end homestand

Stanford University’s men’s water polo team secured an 18-12 victory over No. 6 UC Davis, concluding a six-game homestand and improving their season record to 11-4.

Alex Gheorghe led all scorers with four goals in the win. The Cardinal started strong, taking a 5-2 lead in the first period with two goals from Botond Balogh and additional scores by Dianpiero Di Martire, Max Zelikov, and Ben Forer. At halftime, Stanford was ahead 9-5.

Gheorghe added three more goals after halftime. The third period ended tied at 4-4, but Stanford pulled away in the fourth with a 5-3 advantage. Di Martire contributed a hat trick and two assists. Zelikov, Forer, Balogh, and CJ Indart each scored twice.

West Temkin made six saves and had two steals as Stanford’s goalkeeper.

The Cardinal will next face No. 5 Fordham at Santa Clara on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PT.
