Stanford men’s water polo defeats Santa Clara with strong offensive performance

Stanford University’s men’s water polo team secured a 17-9 victory over Santa Clara University on Wednesday night in Santa Clara, California. The win improves Stanford’s season record to 13-6.

The match saw four Stanford players score multiple goals. Ben Forer scored twice in the first period, helping Stanford take an early 5-2 lead. Max Zelikov, Will Schneider, and Gianpiero Di Martire also contributed early goals.

In the second period, Stanford extended its lead by scoring six more goals to make it 11-3 at halftime. Zelikov and Schneider each added their second goal of the game during this stretch. They were joined by Alex Gheorghe, CJ Indart, Ryan Ohl, and Daniel Mnatsakanian on the scoresheet.

Santa Clara narrowed the gap in the third period but trailed 14-7 going into the final quarter. Stanford maintained control in the fourth period with a 3-2 advantage to secure the win.

Both Gheorghe and Zelikov finished with hat tricks. Schneider and Forer had two goals each.

Zelikov also provided two assists for a total of five points, while Di Martire led all scorers with six points from one goal and five assists.

Goalkeeper West Temkin recorded seven saves while allowing seven goals. Harrison Rohlen made three saves and allowed two goals.

Stanford will play its last home game of the season against No. 6 Pacific on Sunday at Avery Aquatic Center for Senior Day. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT and will be available to stream on Overnght.
