No. 9 Stanford men’s swimming and diving team secured a decisive victory over No. 18 USC on Saturday in Los Angeles, concluding their Southern California weekend series. The Cardinal posted a final score of 203-96, winning the majority of events and achieving several podium sweeps.

Stanford’s performance followed Friday’s meet against UC San Diego, where the team won every event. Against USC, the Cardinal nearly repeated that feat, only missing out on wins in the 100m and 200m backstroke and the 100 butterfly.

In relay events, Stanford outperformed USC. The quartet of Ethan Harrington, Zhier Fan, Rafael Gu, and Jonathan Tan took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.43. In the closing 400 free relay, Gu, Andres Dupont Cabrera, Henry McFadden, and Tan finished in 2:50.66 to secure another win.

Liam Custer led individual performances by winning both distance freestyle events. He finished the 1000 free in 8:48.81—the third-best time in school history—and also claimed victory in the 500 free with a time of 4:19.35.

Henry McFadden contributed two wins for Stanford as well, taking first place in both the 200 free (1:33.44) and the shorter 100 free (42.64). Stanford swept the top three spots in both events.

The breaststroke races saw Zhier Fan win the 100 breast with a time of 52.02 while Daniel Li led Stanford swimmers in the 200 breast at 1:53.52.

Gibson Holmes secured first place for Stanford in the 200 fly with a time of 1:42.89 after teammate Josh Zuchowski led early but settled for second place.

In sprint freestyle action, Jonathan Tan and Rafael Gu tied for first place in the 50 free at 19.32 seconds; Harrington completed a top-three sweep for Stanford by finishing third.

Jason Zhao closed out individual swimming victories for Stanford by winning the 200 IM with a time of 1:44.67.

Stanford divers also delivered strong results as Misha Andriyuk won both springboard events—scoring career bests of 369.00 on one-meter and 419.93 on three-meter boards.

The Cardinal achieved thirteen NCAA qualifying marks across swimming and diving disciplines during this meet—nine from swimmers and four from divers.

Stanford will return home to host No.4 California at Avery Aquatics Center on January 30 for their final dual meet of the season.
