Stanford University’s men’s swimming and diving program has announced the addition of seven new athletes on National Signing Day. The incoming class represents four states within the United States and three countries abroad, continuing the team’s tradition of international recruitment.

“We are thrilled to welcome this class. They are an incredibly talented and driven group,” said Dan Schemmel, the Goldman Family Director of Men’s Swimming. “More importantly, they are top-notch human beings and will be amazing additions to our team culture. Each one will make an immediate impact in and out of the pool, and we can’t wait for them to join us next fall!”

The new recruits include Davi de Carvalho from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, who is an eight-time Brazilian champion and holds a national record in the 400 IM. De Carvalho has competed at both national and international levels, including the South American Swimming Championship and World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships.

“I chose Stanford for its outstanding swimming legacy, world-class academics, and strong spirit of entrepreneurship – the best place for me to achieve my goals both in and out of the pool,” de Carvalho said.

Enzo Desviat Ruiz from Boston is recognized as a two-sport athlete with achievements in both soccer and swimming. He holds two Spanish National youth records in the 50 free event and was named New England Summer Senior Champion. Desviat Ruiz is also a four-time Scholastic All-American.

“Stanford felt different from everywhere else, but in a way that perfectly fit me,” he stated.

Nathan Foucu from San Jose is noted as this year’s only Bay Area recruit. Foucu set a regional record in the 200 free at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale while earning multiple Athlete of the Year honors.

“I chose Stanford for the exceptional academic and athletic opportunities,” Foucu said.

Evangelos Ntoumas comes from Alexandroupolis, Greece. He represented Greece at major competitions such as the Olympics—swimming breaststroke on his country’s medley relay—and earned silver at this year’s European Junior Championship.

“I chose Stanford because I feel like it’s the ideal place for me to develop my skills and personality. I feel like I’m at home,” Ntoumas commented.

Tyler Phillips joins from Fairfax, Virginia after competing in soccer, track & field, and swimming during high school. Phillips won multiple state titles across disciplines and received several academic awards including PVS scholar-athlete recognition.

“I chose to attend Stanford because of the amazing, successful, and welcoming swim team community. Along with that, the combination of its incredible campus, outstanding athletic programs, excellent academics, and most of all…it was where I felt most at home made it my clear top choice.”

Sander Sorensen hails from Baerum near Oslo in Norway. Sorensen recently set a Norwegian record at Asker Grand Prix with a time of 1:44.17; he also competed at World Championships earlier this year setting additional national records.

“Stanford provides a very good opportunity to combine swimming and academics at the highest level,” Sorensen said.

Maxwell Stanislaus arrives from Keller High School in Texas where he was part of teams that set national high school records in relays; he is also recognized as First Team All-State swimmer with multiple elite team honors nationally.

“Stanford offers the most complete combination of academic excellence and world-class athletics anywhere in the country.”

The announcement highlights Stanford’s ongoing efforts to attract diverse talent globally while maintaining its status among leading collegiate swimming programs.
