Stanford University’s men’s golf team began its spring season with a decisive win over Texas A&M at The Vintage Club Shootout in Indian Wells, California. Ranked No. 35 nationally, Stanford defeated the No. 31-ranked Aggies with a score of 7-1 on Sunday.
The Cardinal secured six victories out of eight matches in the match-play event, maintaining control for most of the contest. By the halfway point, Stanford led in six matches, four by multiple holes, and did not lose momentum throughout the afternoon.
At the top position, Jay Leng faced Wheaton Ennis from Texas A&M. Leng took an early lead but fell behind before making a comeback to finish tied after winning three of the final nine holes.
Dean Greyserman played against Aaron Pounds and established a strong lead on the front nine. Despite Pounds’ attempt to recover, Greyserman closed out a 2up win with an eagle on hole 15.
Edan Cui and Ethan Gao also contributed to Stanford’s performance. Cui overcame an early deficit to tie his match against Shiv Parmar after winning several holes, including an eagle on hole nine. Gao secured one of Stanford’s three 3&2 wins by taking five holes over Alex Long during the last 13 holes.
Nathan Wang and TK Chantananuwat added more points for Stanford with their respective wins. Wang maintained his advantage throughout his match despite a late push from Jaime Montojo. Chantananuwat returned to the lineup with four birdies and an eagle to earn another 3&2 victory.
Freshman Cooper Stearns won his match by one hole after leading through much of the round and making three birdies. Junior Kush Arora made his season debut for Stanford and finished with six birdies and an eagle for another 3&2 win.

Stanford’s victory avenged last season’s result at Hideaway against Texas A&M and sets a positive tone for its spring schedule.
